Static Cling Installation
Method: Wet, Apply and Squeegee
Before you start:
Choose a glass surface area that is smooth and free of any imperfections. Your new Window-scene should be installed on the inside of the surface. For best results, avoid installing your Window-scene on surfaces during time periods of extreme fluctuation in temperature (hot or cold).
What you need:
- A Ladder or two
- Squeegee or two
- A friend to help out (depending on the size)
- Spray bottle with water
- Utility Knife or Straight Edge Razor Blade
Instructions:
- Note: All scenes come with a 1” to 1 ½” margin to ensure full coverage of surface area
- Thoroughly clean glass surface area where the scene will be installed. Wipe area dry.
- Line up the static cling material so that there is a one to two inch border around the entire window. – Take extra care when trimming the top edge! It’s important to have a straight and level top. This will assure that your scene aligns properly to the surface area.
- For an easier application, we recommend using a spray bottle filled with water and a few drops of liquid dish soap. Spray this mixture on the surface where you plan to install your Window-scene. This allows the static cling to be positioned more easily.
- You may now pull the backing off of the Window-scene. We recommend pulling off a manageable portion. (For any Scene under 3 ft. x 3 ft. you should be fine removing the entire backing)
- Place the Window-scene against the glass surface.
- Once the Window-scene has clung to the surface it is a good idea to smooth out all imperfections. For this, we recommend a squeegee (typically found in the wall paper department of your local home improvement retailer). An old credit card can also help with this process.
- Start from the center of your Scene and use your squeegee to remove air bubbles and the soap and water to the left and right edges. You may lift any edge of the Window-scene and smooth it back down if you are having difficulty removing air bubbles. Don’t be afraid to spray more soap and water if you need to.
- If you ordered a custom size Scene, there should be minimal trim work to do. If you have any edges overlapping the glass surface, you will want to grab a utility knife or a single edge razor blade and a straight edge.
- Use the straight edge to pinch the excess material between the trim and the straight edge. Be sure to align your edge from to top to bottom and side to side. Guide your blade along the edge, being careful to only remove the excess material. Remember, cutting the material too long is never a bad thing. You can always take more off if you need to. The goal is to prevent leaving any gaps that light can seep through.
- Use a soft towel to dry your new Wall-scene.
- ENJOY YOUR NEW VIEW!
